Rainier Cemetery District

A RESOLUTION OF THE RAINIER CEMETERY DISTRICT CALLING FOR A MEASURE ELECTION TO SUBMIT TO THE ELECTORS OF THE DISTRICT THE QUESTION OF COLLECTING A FIVE-YEAR LOCAL OPTION LEVY FOR THE PURPOSE OF CEMETERY OPERATIONS

WHEREAS, the District is operating within its established 1962 tax base, which is presently $0.0709 per $1000 of assessed value, and;

WHEREAS, it will not be possible for the District to save money for operations, major equipment replacement and maintenance, and maintain its current staffing levels within the current budget limitations, and;

WHEREAS, equipment deteriorates over time, and it is reasonably necessary to replace and upgrade required equipment for daily operations from time to time, as well as continuing to provide a second full-time person to assist with the daily responsibilities of managing 12 cemeteries and provide a safe working environment and;

WHEREAS, the District serves twelve local cemeteries (37 acres, across 25 miles), and;

WHEREAS, the continued upkeep and appearance of the cemeteries; quality of working conditions and safety for our Sexton and employees are a priority to the District and Board members and;

WHEREAS, if this measure is approved, the District would be authorized to impose a local option of $0.05 per $1000 of assessed value each year, for a five-year period;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE RAINIER CEMETERY DISTRICT, COLUMBIA COUNTY, OREGON AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1: That a measure election is hereby called for the purpose of submitting to the electors of the Rainier Cemetery District the question of collecting a five-year local option levy for the purpose of replacing equipment, and maintenance, maintaining current staffing levels and general operating expenses.

Section 2: That the measure election hereby called shall be held in the District on November 4, 2025. This election will be held by mail.

Section 3: That the District directs that there shall be delivered to the elections officer of Columbia County, Oregon not later than September 4, 2025 (60 days prior to the election) the attached Notice Measure Election, which by this references the incorporated herein. The Election Officer is requested to publish the notice in the Wahkiakum County Eagle, in Cathlamet, Washington in accordance with ORS Chapter 255.

Section 4: The proper official of the District is hereby authorized to take such further action as is necessary to carry out the intent and purposes hereof in compliance with the applicable provisions of law.
